UK drivers: some disturbing facts

You would think after 100 years of motoring us 'brits' would have it mastered.

Not so. Sadly we've a long way to go, as you're about to see.

Read on to find out a few shocking home truths I uncovered from just a few minutes internet research. (Thanks to Castrol and The Daily Mail for making this info available).

Fasten your seatbelts, here we go...

  • 4 million UK motorists don't know how to open the bonnet, (6% of men and 17% of women)
  • 2.6 million people have never had their car serviced
  • Only one  in eight people would know how check tyres, top up the oil and water and change a bulb
  • 67% say its important to keep the car looking good, but just 13% care about how it works
  • One in five people would drive on a flat tyre
  • 1.9 million people have put the wrong kind of fuel in their car (men are thought to be three times more likely to do this)
  • Two thirds of us are confused by road signs on a daily basis
  • A third of us just follow the car in front when we aren't sure what to do
  • One in twenty of us never take any notice of signposts
  • 50% do not know what the giveway markings on a road mean
  • A third beleive that a 'No Motor Vehicles' sign means the opposite and that only cars and motorbikes were allowed
What are your thoughts? - perhaps we should all have to retake the theory test maybe every 10 years?
